In its H1 2024 financial report, IAG Cargo – the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) – has revealed commercial revenues of €566 million for the January 1 to June 30 period, and a tonnage increase of 7.8% versus the same period in 2023.
David Shepherd, chief executive of IAG Cargo, said: “We achieved solid results with year-on-year volume growth in a global market characterised by less supply chain constraint than we experienced last year. This positive momentum is a testament to our strategic investments across our business, which are already delivering substantial value, choice and flexibility for our customers.”
IAG Cargo has been implementing initiatives across its operations, focusing on enhancing the customer experience and driving operational efficiency.
IAG Cargo joined the IATA Digital Charter and signed up to the One Record protocol in Q2 2024, further streamlining data exchange and transparency within the air cargo supply chain.
Shepherd added: “We are committed to leveraging technology to enhance our operations and are actively expanding our IT and digital team to accelerate these initiatives.
“Our new pricing system is providing greater agility in offering market-relevant rates to our customers, while the implementation of a cutting-edge AI-powered camera solution at our London Heathrow hub is optimising efficiency in cargo loading planning and ultimately improving customer CiQ quality.”
During the first half of 2024, IAG Cargo expanded its ground transportation solutions across North America and Europe, providing customers with greater flexibility and access to key gateways including Madrid, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
IAG Cargo also completed a €1.5 million expansion of its temperature-controlled perishables facility in Madrid during the second quarter, enhancing the vital connection between LATAM and Europe for perishable goods.
This latest investment is part of a broader €12 million investment in the Spanish hub over the past six years.
Shepherd added: “Our investments in digital capabilities, network reach, state-of-the-art facilities, and most importantly, our people, are laying the foundation for sustained growth and a stronger future for IAG Cargo.”
IAG Cargo is the single business created following the merger of British Airways World Cargo and Iberia Cargo in April 2011. Following the integration of additional airlines into the business, including Aer Lingus, Vueling and LEVEL, IAG Cargo now covers a global network covering six continents.
