Kuala Lumpur joins IAG Cargo pharma network

IAG Cargo has expanded its pharmaceutical network with the addition of a Constant Climate-approved station at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The new station strengthens the cargo division of International Airlines Group’s temperature-controlled offering in Southeast Asia and takes its Constant Climate network to around 100 approved stations globally.

Kuala Lumpur becomes the 13th Constant Climate-approved station in the Asia-Pacific region and is connected to IAG Cargo’s London Heathrow hub by a daily service.

Constant Climate is IAG Cargo’s cold chain product for pharmaceuticals, including vaccines, biotech products, diagnostic samples and other temperature-sensitive materials.

The GDP-certified Kuala Lumpur facility can handle both active and passive temperature-controlled shipments.

Customers can also use IAG Cargo’s Critical service, which provides priority shipping and enhanced monitoring for urgent temperature-sensitive cargo.

Jordan Kohlbeck, head of pharmaceutical at IAG Cargo, said: “Adding Kuala Lumpur to our Constant Climate network further enhances IAG Cargo’s presence in Southeast Asia, strengthening both our origin and destination capabilities for pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments. It expands our regional coverage and offers customers greater flexibility when moving temperature-sensitive goods across the globe.

“With around 100 approved Constant Climate stations worldwide, and our state-of-the-art New Premia facility at our London Heathrow headquarters, IAG Cargo is ideally positioned to manage high-value, time- and temperature-sensitive shipments quickly and securely.

“This expansion reflects the growing demand for reliable cold chain solutions, driven by ongoing innovation in life sciences and the increasing need for fast, temperature-controlled transport of biologics, cell and gene therapies, and personalised medicines - all of which rely on the speed and precision that air cargo uniquely provides.”

The expansion also builds on IAG Cargo’s pharmaceutical handling activities at Heathrow, where it provides third-party handling services for MASkargo.

Pharmaceutical shipments travelling through Heathrow can use dedicated temperature-controlled handling facilities and onward connections across IAG Cargo’s Constant Climate network.

Kohlbeck added: “The daily Kuala Lumpur-London Heathrow schedule has been optimised to enhance service quality and reliability. An early morning arrival into London Heathrow enables same-day connections to a number of key Constant Climate stations across the IAG Cargo network - helping ensure faster, more secure delivery of pharmaceutical shipments worldwide.”

The Kuala Lumpur expansion follows the launch of the Global Cargo Joint Business between IAG Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo, aimed at strengthening connectivity across their combined air cargo networks.
