SITTING COMFORTABLY
The major theme in this month’s issue is health. We’ve got articles on passenger comfort, onboard accessibility and cabin modernisation, all of which contribute to greater passenger wellbeing.
I hope you find them as useful and interesting to read as I found them to edit. This month, I found the articles particularly relevant as I’ve somehow damaged what appears to be a sciatic nerve. The result is that I’ve been hobbling around in a way I’m simply not used to, and every seat that isn’t a perfect fit for my body has become a painful experience.
In a sense, I’m very lucky. My reduction in mobility and comfort is, hopefully, only temporary. However, it has made me reflect on something a disability rights campaigner wrote in this magazine a few issues ago: nothing is truly fixed for passengers with reduced mobility until everything is. There’s little value in a seamless, step-free journey through the airport if you’re then expected to climb an Eiger of a staircase or lift a heavy suitcase above your head.
