Alaska Airlines’ subsidiary Horizon Air  has trimmed its summer schedule and delayed the delivery of two new E175 aircraft due to the current economic situation caused by the US government’s imposition of tariffs on imported goods.

The carrier was in line to receive the aircraft in May, but has postponed the delivery because it ‘will not accept additional costs imposed by tariffs’.

Although the steepest tariffs are currently paused, Brazil currently has a baseline of 10% and future uncertainty has made forward planning difficult for  US companies wishing to import high-ticket items.

The Seattle Times reports that the cancellation of 14 flights per day is a direct result of the delayed deliveries, mainly in the Pacific Northwest.

“We deeply regret the impact this situation will have on our guests this summer,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

“We will continue working toward a solution that allows us to take delivery of these aircraft, and we are hopeful the disruption will be short-lived.”

Horizon Air currently operates 45 aircraft, with the vast majority being E-jets.
