SWISS takes off with all-female crews for International Women’s Day

To honour International Women’s Day 2025 on March 8, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will operate its Zurich–Gothenburg return flights with an all-female cockpit and cabin crew.

The initiative extends beyond the aircraft, as SWISS’s partner companies at both airports will also assign female personnel to handle ground operations for the flights.

By showcasing an all-female crew on International Women’s Day, SWISS aims to highlight the role of women in aviation and inspire more women to pursue careers in the air transport industry.

While women currently make up just over 5% of SWISS’s cockpit crew, the number is steadily growing, with 13% of current pilot trainees being female.

SWISS is actively working to increase female representation in aviation through targeted initiatives. These include hosting events designed specifically for women, where female pilots share insights into their profession, answer questions, and encourage more women to explore career opportunities in the field.

SWISS’ head of human resources, Christina Trelle, said: “We’re convinced at our company that diversity is vital to success, promotes innovation and benefits team dynamics. Women have a firm place in aviation – in every aspect thereof. And by rostering this special flight rotation, we’re shining a light on the role they play, and we’re showing that the paths to our cockpits, our technical services and the world of our ground handling partners are open to all.

“Our aim is not just to encourage more women to join our industry: it’s to create a general working environment in which it’s talent, passion and performance that count, whichever gender you may be.”
