General Atomics AeroTec Systems will bring the Do228 NXT to Africa for the first time in September, with static and exhibition appearances at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt and the Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) Expo in South Africa, as the German manufacturer positions the turboprop for the continent's utility and regional aviation market.

The Do228 NXT demonstrator aircraft will appear on static display at El Alamein International Airport from September 8 to 10, marking its first appearance outside Europe following debuts at ILA Berlin and the Farnborough International Airshow earlier in 2026. GA-ATS will follow with a booth presence at AAD in Hangar 1, Booth 1CW6, from September 16 to 20.

The airframer said Africa and the Middle East represent a significant growth market for the aircraft, with an existing Do228 operator base of more than 30 operators across close to 20 countries.

The Do228 NXT is designed for passenger and cargo transport, border surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation and reconnaissance missions, and is built for unpaved airfield and short take-off and landing operations.

The company said the aircraft's multi-mission capability, allowing a single airframe to be reconfigured across roles, is central to its pitch to African operators managing harsh operating conditions and constrained infrastructure.

The two shows mark the start of what General Atomics described as a broader push into the African market, though the company has not disclosed firm orders, letters of intent or specific operator agreements tied to the appearances.
