Iberia Maintenance has secured approval to carry out heavy maintenance across the entire Airbus A350 fleet, expanding its capabilities on the widebody aircraft.
For the first time, the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA) has granted Iberia authorisation for A350 heavy maintenance without limitations, giving the company comprehensive maintenance capability for the aircraft type.
The approval follows a two-year project involving more than 150 lines of action across areas including training, engineering, production, materials, equipment, infrastructure, documentation, quality and IT systems.
Enrique Robledo, director of Iberia Maintenance, said: “This milestone marks the culmination of a project launched at the end of 2024 and gives us comprehensive maintenance capabilities for this aircraft.
“This approval demonstrates that [our] Heavy Maintenance has the processes, equipment, documentation, organisation and qualified professionals required to work on the A350 with the highest levels of safety, quality and efficiency.”
Iberia said securing unrestricted authorisation from the outset reflects the confidence placed in its heavy maintenance operation by the authorities.
The airline added that the approval strengthens Iberia Maintenance’s position in the MRO market and opens up further opportunities to grow its maintenance business.
