SAF startup Synhelion has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Morocco with the aim to develop a large-scale commercial synthetic fuel plant in the country’s southern Tan-Tan province. The facility is planned to produce 100’000 tons of renewable fuel per year although no date has been announced for the planned opening yet.
The Swiss-based company has secured land for the production site and established a local company, Synhelion Morocco, to comply with local regulations.
Welcoming the plans, Karim Zidane, Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies said: “This project has the potential to contribute to the emergence of new value chains, create local economic opportunities and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a competitive platform for green industry".
Since 2024, the company has operated DAWN, its first industrial-scale renewable fuel plant, producing renewable synthetic jet fuel (SAF), diesel, and petroleum. The founders say that the organisation’s technology allows it to produce synthetic fuels for under €0.8 per litre.
