Diehl Aviation has opened a new production facility in Craiova, Romania, in order to support increasing demand for its cabin products.
The supplier has invested what is describes as a 'mid-double-digit million euro sum' in the site, which will provide more than 12,000sqm of production and office space and become part of Diehl's manufacturing network alongside existing operations in Germany, Hungary and Mexico.
Production is due to begin in autumn 2026, initially focusing on established cabin interior and systems products already in production. These include manually laminated composite cabin components, insulation blankets and tanks for aircraft water and waste systems.
Around 75 employees will support the facility's initial operations, but Diehl predicts the workforce to grow to as many as 500 people in the medium term. The company has already commenced training programmes covering aerospace manufacturing, quality management and safety requirements.
"The new facility expands our manufacturing capabilities and strengthens our ability to support customers worldwide with the quality, reliability and delivery performance they expect from Diehl Aviation," said CEO Jörg Schuler.
The company is also establishing partnerships with regional universities and educational institutions to support future aerospace skills development.
