easyJet has entered the IFC market, with confirmation that it will install Starlink across its fleet in 2027, with roll-out expected to be completed sometime in 2028.
The move marks a policy shift for the LCC. Earlier in the year, CEO Kenton Jarvis said that he had looked at installing the fast internet system, but the numbers didn’t work.
However, a deal has now been struck and will offer the airline a useful point of difference between itself and Western Europe rival Ryanair, whose outspoken CEO had a public spat with Elon Musk, the trillionaire owner of Starlink.
It will also help easyJet compete with low-cost rivals in Eastern Europe, such as Air Baltic and Wizz Air, both of which have begun the roll-out of the technology.
Kenton Jarvis, CEO at easyJet, said: “We are offering more of the options both business and leisure travellers want when they choose who they fly with”.
Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, added: “We’re proud to bring Starlink onboard easyJet and transform the way their customers stay connected throughout their travels. Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream, or stay in touch without interruption.”
