A 10,000 sqm state-of-the-art air freight facility extension to Budapest Airport’s (BUD) Cargo City has been officially opened.
The expansion will see Menzies Aviation’s cargo capacity increase from 49,000 tonnes (total handled in 2023) to 85,000 tonnes per year.
New temperature-controlled animal and valuable cargo rooms will also enable Menzies Aviation to diversify and provide an even more secure cargo handling service to its customers.
Menzies Aviation was one of the first occupants to lease space at BUD Cargo City when it was opened in 2019.
Since then, the growth in cargo volumes has necessitated an upgrade to Menzies Aviation’s facilities, which includes a 3,000 sqm warehouse expansion, a 1,500 sqm maneuvering area for truck and ground support equipment (GSE) and a 300 sqm office and social space.
Following the expansion, the warehouse space available to Menzies Aviation has increased from 4,000 sqm to 7,000 sqm.
Menzies Aviation has invested significantly in the upgrade, which has been operational since December 2023.
In total, the company has committed more than $1 million to the construction of the building itself and $6 million to the ongoing lease.
