Andy Burnham, the UK’s new Prime Minister, has used the first full day in office to record a video message for visitors at the Farnborough Airshow.

In the two minute message, Burnham reconfirmed his commitment to ‘reindustrialise’ the UK and create jobs and opportunities, which will be done ‘by working together with brilliant businesses, like those at Farnborough this week’.

He added that the civil aerospace and defence sectors combined will support half a million jobs by 2030 and recommitted support to the GCAP fighter programme, announcing that Canada will join the project as an observer nation.

“GCAP is already one of the worlds most ambitious defence and industrial partnerships, supporting 4,500 jobs across the UK,” said Burnham.

” Today’s announcement makes it even stronger. It’s a sign of things to come”.

The Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) is a trilateral UK-led initiative with Italy and Japan to develop a sixth-generation stealth fighter, targeting entry into service by 2035.
