PAM MENA: Collaboration and data sharing vital to drive the value of predictive

Collaboration and sharing of data “respectfully and fairly” is vital for the aviation industry if they are to realise the value out of predictive technology and artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the first PAM MENA conference n Dubai today, Rami Aynati, general manager EMEA global lessors and MROs at GE Aerospace, said it did not want to “reinvent the wheel”.

He said GE and the digital alliance it is part of, which also includes Airbus, Delta Tech Ops, Collines aerospace, and Liebherr has built its platform on Microsoft’s Azure technology.

“We chose to use Azure so at to not reinvent the wheel; to use Microsoft and augment it. We came together and we moved much faster, coming together as an alliance.

“We do not have to reinvent the wheel today, don’t have to compete on everything. Safety is not an area we should compete on.”

Aynati cited a case study with low cost carrier easyJet which was able to avoid 79 cancellations during the summer of 2024 by using the digital alliance’s Skywise platform.

A recent development from the alliance has been to put more power n the hands of the users by enabling them to build their own bespoke analytics solutions.

My Analytics was described as a “digital workbench” developed to support airline maintenance divisions to refine their analytics.

“They do not have to rely on what’s in the system because each operation is different. This is where we can finetune what we have and they can build their own.”

Aynati described Artificial Intelligence as a “huge buzzword”, and he said everyone is asking  what companies are doing to harness its potential.

But he said developing AI solutions take time. “It takes years. There’s an investment there with proper investment.

“If you go into the use cases you are able to collate the value before you invest. With the models we have seen some are in production, some are developed all the way.

“These are successful models where we have validated there is value.”
