Qatar Airways has confirmed that it will not be taking part in next week’s Farnborough Airshow, following the death of HH. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Emir, known in Qatar as the ‘Father Amir’ had been ruler of Qatar since 1995, having taken power in a bloodless coup from his father. In the years that followed he modernised the country, establishing numerous sports stadia, founded Al Jazeera TV and oversaw Qatar Airways’ transformation from a fledgling regional carrier to become one of the world’s largest and highest ranked international airlines.

In a statement, Qatar Airways said: “We are now in a period of mourning in Qatar, and Qatar Airways Group has taken the decision to cancel our participation at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026″.

The airline had been due to display a Boeing 777-300ER and a Qatar Executive Gulfstream G700 at the event
