ANA Holdings has announced the start of preparations for a strategic reorganisation of its group-wide cargo business companies, a move designed to strengthen its air cargo operations and position the segment as a long-term driver of sustainable growth.
The initiative follows ANA Holdings’ acquisition of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) on August 1, 2025, a transaction that established the group as Japan’s largest combined passenger and cargo airline operator.
Since the acquisition, ANA Holdings says operational synergies between All Nippon Airways (ANA) and NCA have already begun to materialise, most notably through the mutual use of cargo capacity and the launch of cargo codeshare flights on key North American and European routes in October.
The planned reorganisation is intended to build on this foundation by accelerating decision-making, optimising cost structures and improving profitability across the group’s cargo activities.
ANA Holdings views the restructuring as a necessary next step to fully unlock the strategic value of integrating its dedicated freighter operations with its extensive international passenger and cargo network.
According to ANA Holdings, the cargo business has been identified as an indispensable pillar of the group’s future growth strategy. Following an extensive internal review, the company has begun considering and preparing for a revised organisational structure that better aligns ANA and NCA’s cargo operations while enhancing group-wide synergies.
While the detailed structure and implementation plan have yet to be finalised, ANA Holdings confirmed that the reorganisation is targeted for completion by the end of fiscal year 2026.
As part of the plan, NCA will retain its air operator certificate (AOC), ensuring continuity of its dedicated freighter operations throughout the transition.
By combining NCA’s fleet of large, dedicated freighters with ANA’s global passenger network and bellyhold capacity, the group aims to deliver greater operational efficiency, broaden service offerings and create additional value for customers worldwide.
ANA Holdings believes the integrated approach will reinforce its competitive position in the international cargo market, enabling the group to respond more flexibly to market demand while strengthening its leadership role in air cargo both within Japan and globally.
