Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) has underlined its ambitions to capture a greater share of UK-India trade flows after hosting the Consul General of India, Siddharth Malik, to showcase its upgraded cool chain capabilities.
The Consul General toured the airport’s cargo facilities alongside Kevin Braidwood, deputy chief executive of South Ayrshire Council, and the local authority’s business development officer, Calum McPhail.
Talks centred on the forthcoming UK-India Free Trade Agreement, expected to be implemented in April, and the additional bilateral trade volumes it could unlock.
During the visit, officials were shown around PIK's enhanced cool chain infrastructure, which supports exporters of Scottish salmon, pharmaceuticals, life sciences products and other temperature-sensitive goods.
Jules Matteoni, operations director at PIK, said: “This was a great opportunity to show the Consul General just how unique our cargo operations are. With our fully integrated, in-house model and recent investment in cool chain infrastructure, we are exceptionally well positioned to support the additional bilateral trade expected when the new UK-India trade agreement comes into force this summer.”
Prestwick’s management also outlined its offering for Indian businesses and Scottish exporters, highlighting on-site bonded warehouse facilities and operational flexibility as differentiators.
