Safran.AI to establish Singapore subsidiary focused on AI-powered MRO inspections

Safran.AI has announced plans to establish its first international subsidiary in Singapore, with a focus on developing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for industrial applications, including automated inspections in the MRO sector.

The announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Safran and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), aimed at strengthening Singapore’s position as a strategic hub for the aerospace group in Southeast Asia.

The establishment of Safran.AI Singapore represents the first initiative under the agreement, with further projects expected in the coming years.

The new subsidiary will develop AI solutions through a Centre of Excellence, initially focusing on automating digital inspections to support Singapore’s MRO 4.0 ambitions.

It will also pursue research and innovation opportunities by drawing on Singapore’s engineering talent and academic ecosystem, while supporting Safran.AI customers across the ASEAN region.

Safran.AI Singapore is expected to employ approximately 50 people within five years, with recruitment beginning in the first quarter of 2027. Initial positions will include data scientists and AI engineers.

Sébastien Fabre, chief executive of Safran.AI, said: “Safran.AI Singapore marks a new step in our strategy, drawing on exceptional talent and a world-class aviation maintenance ecosystem.

“I warmly thank EDB for its trust and support. We look forward to building a team of engineers and data scientists that will contribute to our growth across Southeast Asia.”

Philippe Errera, executive vice president of international development and government affairs at Safran, highlighted Singapore’s importance to the group's regional operations.

“Singapore has created a particularly attractive environment for the development of Safran’s activities, combining a dynamic business ecosystem, academic excellence and strong support from the authorities,” he said.

“We look forward to continuing to build on this successful partnership and strengthening Safran’s presence in the region.”

Cindy Koh, executive vice president of the Singapore Economic Development Board, said the investment reinforced Singapore’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing technologies and AI innovation.

“Safran’s decision to establish its first international AI subsidiary in Singapore underscores our position as a leading hub for advanced I4.0 technologies and AI innovation,” she said.

Safran has operated in Singapore for more than 45 years and currently employs approximately 900 people across five production, engineering and maintenance facilities.

The country serves as a major regional hub for Safran’s MRO and customer support activities, as well as its wider innovation operations.

The group has continued to invest in its Singapore operations, including the recent expansion of industrial capabilities at its Safran Landing Systems MRO facility.
