Avianca Cargo boosts Bolivian trade links through Viru Viru operations

Colombian freight carrier Avianca Cargo has launched scheduled operations to Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, expanding its network in South America and strengthening logistics connectivity across the region.

The new service directly connects Miami and Bogotá with Viru Viru International Airport, providing enhanced cargo links between North and South America while supporting the movement of goods to and from Bolivia.

The operation also utilises Avianca Cargo’s Bogotá hub as a consolidation centre, enabling cargo originating from Europe and countries across the Southern Cone to reach Bolivia more efficiently.

Flights are operated using Airbus A330 freighter aircraft and offer capacity of up to 60 tonnes per flight.

The service is designed to transport both general cargo and specialised shipments serving key sectors of the Bolivian economy, including mining, automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce and courier services.

Diogo Elías, chief executive of Avianca Cargo, said: “At Avianca Cargo, we continue to invest in the development of new markets, consolidating a network that drives more efficient connections between the Americas and the world. The opening of this operation to Bolivia is especially significant for us, as it strengthens the country’s connectivity and directly contributes to the dynamism of its foreign trade.”

The carrier said the addition of Viru Viru International Airport strengthens its regional network and creates new opportunities for trade flows throughout Latin America, while further enhancing connectivity between the Americas and international markets.
