Lufthansa Technik launches $100m+ Philippines MRO facility project
Lufthansa Technik Philippines has announced it will make a three-digit million-dollar investment to build a new 157,000 sqm base maintenance facility at Clark International Airport.
With operations scheduled to commence in 2028, the facility is expected to offer capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft bays and will create approximately 1,200 highly skilled jobs.
The announcement was made on June 16, 2026, during the state visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who met with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañan Palace in Manila. Both heads of state acknowledged the project as a milestone in German-Philippine economic cooperation.
The Clark facility will be Lufthansa Technik’s second location in the Philippines and will complement operations at the long-standing site at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, where the company has been present for more than 25 years and recently secured a long-term lease extension.
Lufthansa Technik said that together both locations will form a powerful hub for widebody aircraft MRO and strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
Soeren Stark, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik, said: “Asia-Pacific is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, and the Philippines are central to our strategy in this region. With the investment in the new site in Clark, we are taking the next decisive step in our growth strategy and positioning Lufthansa Technik for the future of aviation – well beyond the borders of this region.”
Holger Beck, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik Philippines, said: “Our sites in Manila and Clark will complement each other as two strong pillars of our growth, and together they mark an exciting new chapter for Lufthansa Technik Philippines.”
With both facilities, the company said it is well positioned to meet growing demand from its airline customers across Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
As Lufthansa Technik’s competence centre for widebody aircraft within its worldwide network, Lufthansa Technik Philippines specialises in the MRO of Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380 as well as Boeing 777 aircraft.
With the additional Clark facility, the company’s portfolio will also include the Boeing 787.
