Air navigation service provider, Airways New Zealand (Airways), has shared the results for its half-year, ending December 31, 2024, which shows positive fiscal results, and sound safety and operational performance.

The company reported $6.7 million in profits after tax, putting it ahead of its budget by half a million, as a result of lower depreciation, equipment costs, and service expenses, although air traffic services for the half year were impacted by decreasing flight movements due to engine and servicing issues.

However, Airways states that regardless of the challenges faced, it anticipates a financial recovery through the rest of the fiscal year and continues on track to meet its budget Group profit by then.

“As the aviation industry continues to navigate a challenging environment, Airways remains committed to managing costs appropriately, maintaining our high safety standards and advancing our strategic objectives,” said Airways chair, Denise Church.

On performance and safety, it managed more than 240,000 flight movements across its controlled airspace and in the Auckland Oceanic region, which spans around 30 million square kilometres and affirmed its commitment to advance the airspace industry in the future.

“Our strategic initiatives are designed to ensure we are well-positioned to meet the future needs of the aviation industry,” Airways’ chief executive James Young said. “We are focused on creating a safe, flexible, and accessible airspace environment that benefits all users.”
