Paris-based software developer for airlines, CitizenPlane, has launched a new operating system aimed at mid-sized and fast-growing carriers.
The technology, revealed today as airlines and technology suppliers gather in London for the annual T2RLEngage conference, was developed to help airlines to modernise their retailing.
The system uses Zenith software which CitizenPlane acquired in the recent buy-out of leading Passenger Service System (PSS) provider Travel Technology Interactive (TTI).
The company said the modular “all-in-one platform” is “designed to realise new levels of commercial opportunity with solutions that are only a click away”.
It features innovative flight distribution solution AIR which enables airlines to distribute inventory outside of the GDS, to OTAs and metasearch sites including eDreams, Skyscanner, and LastMinute.com.
Charles Rajjou, chief executive of CitizenPlane, said system “solves a major pain point for smaller airlines without easy, low-cost access to large-scale distribution channels.”
He added: “To complement their distribution strategy, airlines can also use the seats module to grow incremental revenue and increase load factor from marketing unsold. Our vision is that all airlines will be able to benefit from effective innovation.
“We are building on the technology foundations laid by the pioneers who have delivered the industry to the thriving business it is today and bringing to the table a laser-focus on elegant simplicity that has become our hallmark.”
The company said the CitizenPlane Operating System “builds on, extends, and modernises the traditional PSS concept by breaking down a monolithic approach into easy-to-innovate cloud-based applications.
“The result is a modular, one-stop-shop platform that delivers meaningful commercial value with a focus on simplifying complexity. The CitizenPlane OS will quickly deliver innovation across the airline business and reduce the overhead of running disparate software solutions”.
The new CitizenPlane OS enables users to define and control their retailing strategy from offer creation to distribution through any point-of-sale, aligned with standards like IATA NDC.
It features a database that centralises customer and purchase information to provide a more seamless end-user experience.
“Much of the transformative change we hear about in the industry is led by the top tier airlines,” said Grégoire Echalier, TTI chief executive.
“We believe innovation shouldn’t stop at airlines who carry 10 million passengers a year or more – it’s time to lower the barrier-of-entry so more will benefit.
“We are here to secure the future of mid-tier airlines and it’s great to be part of that movement through the merger with CitizenPlane.”
Future developments will see the CitizenPlane OS have revenue accounting and crew management capabilities through strategic acquisitions and product innovation.
Following the TTI acquisition, CitizenPlane’s growing airline customer portfolio includes over 80 airlines, including Transavia, Tunisair, Nouvelair, TAP Air Portugal, Royal Air Maroc, US-Bangla Airlines, Corsair, Corendon Airlines, Air Montenegro, ASL Airlines France, Beond, and GOL Linhas Aereas.
