FIA 2026: BA selects Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for A320neo fleet
British Airways (BA) has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power 33 firm and 30 option Airbus A320neo aircraft, alongside a 12-year maintenance agreement covering the fleet.
The agreement, announced today at this week’s Farnborough International Airshow, includes Pratt & Whitney’s EngineWise Comprehensive services, with engine deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
Rick Deurloo, president of commercial engines at Pratt & Whitney, said: “Today marks a pivotal moment and a strong vote of confidence in the GTF engine as the UK’s flagship carrier, British Airways, becomes the newest GTF customer.
“As the most fuel-efficient choice for the A320neo aircraft, the GTF engine will help British Airways achieve its international fleet expansion goals and enhance the travel experience for passengers.”
According to Pratt & Whitney, the GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared with the previous generation of engines.
More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently in service with over 90 customers worldwide, while the programme has an order backlog of more than 8,000 engines.
Pratt & Whitney added that its GTF Advantage engine, due to enter service later this year, will offer up to twice the time on wing, while providing improved fuel efficiency and greater range capability.
