FIA 2026: Unison and Lufthansa Technik agree 15-year CFM LEAP MRO deal
GE Aerospace company Unison has signed a 15-year agreement with Lufthansa Technik that will make the MRO provider its exclusive authorised service provider in Europe for CFM LEAP engine ignition systems.
The agreement, which was announced at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow, gives Lufthansa Technik responsibility for MRO services covering the ignition systems of CFM International LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B and LEAP-1C engines, supporting the growing fleet of LEAP-powered aircraft in service across the region.
The work will be carried out at Lufthansa Technik’s component facilities in Hamburg, Germany.
Under the partnership, Unison will supply genuine OEM parts and the required technical data, while Lufthansa Technik will be authorised to administer warranty for components serviced at its facility.
The companies said the agreement expands Unison’s aftermarket support network by providing LEAP operators with an OEM-authorised option for ignition system repairs in Europe. Despite the collaboration, both companies will continue to operate independently and compete globally for repair and overhaul work.
Kranthi Tata, president and chief executive of Unison, said: “This agreement underscores our commitment to strengthening the aftermarket network our customers depend on for reliability, responsiveness and long-term fleet support. By working with Lufthansa Technik, we are strengthening the regional MRO network for LEAP ignition systems and expanding the service capabilities available to operators in Europe.”
Henning Linnekogel, senior director OEM partner management at Lufthansa Technik, said: “Lufthansa Technik, with more than 50 years of experience within aircraft ignition systems across all major aircraft platforms, is proud to partner with Unison. With our experience, repair development skills, and our passion for parts, we are the perfect match to Unison’s product line.”
The agreement forms part of Unison’s wider aftermarket growth strategy while supporting Lufthansa Technik’s continued expansion of MRO capabilities for the latest generation of aircraft engines.
