Lion Group has officially opened Batam Aero Engine (BAE), expanding its aircraft engine maintenance capabilities in Indonesia.
The facility, which began operations in Batam on August 19, 2026 will provide maintenance for jet and turboprop engines, as well as auxiliary power units (APUs).
BAE has been established as part of Lion Group's efforts to increase the amount of engine maintenance that can be carried out domestically and strengthen Indonesia's position in the Asian MRO market.
The operation provides both on-wing maintenance, where work is performed while an engine remains installed on the aircraft, and off-wing services covering engines removed for inspection, repair and further maintenance.
Its capabilities include borescope inspections using IPLEX NX, IPLEX GX/GT and Mentor Flex equipment, alongside Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) module replacement performed by certified personnel.
Lion Group said developing domestic engine maintenance capacity could also support growth elsewhere in Indonesia's aviation aftermarket, including component and equipment suppliers and other MRO-related services.
BAE's location on regional aviation and trade routes, combined with its existing industrial and aviation infrastructure, is also expected to support efforts to attract maintenance work from elsewhere in Asia.
Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi, president director of Lion Group, said: "We hope this facility can serve domestic needs as well as friendly countries and further strengthen Indonesia's aviation industry."
The opening is also expected to create opportunities for engine technicians, engineers, inspectors, quality assurance specialists and other skilled aviation personnel.
BAE plans to support workforce development through practical experience, training and certification, alongside closer links between the MRO industry and education and training organisations.
Sokhib Al Rokhman, director of airworthiness and aircraft operations at Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation, said the development would help strengthen the country's ability to support its own aviation sector.
"We want to strengthen aviation independence by making Batam Aero Engine an MRO hub that is efficient, responsive and competitive in the Asian market," he said.
